Maxell Releases Holographic Storage Device
Holographic storage technology is a reality, which means that the future is now, which would make today yesterday, and next week a day closer. Or something.
The technology (assuming this is the real deal and not just marketing malarkey) will allow up to 1.6 Terabytes of storage on 5 1/4 inch media, which ironically look like the floppy disks of years past. Target date for release of the media into the public is set at late 2006. Here’s to storing our entire DNA structure on a piece of lint in the year 2025.

Here’s to storing our entire DNA structure on a piece of lint in the year 2025.
In these archaic times, we’re stuck with storing it in a bulky cumbersome cell.
What you see in the picture is not actually the HVD disk. It is actually the disc in the drive.
So the HVD does not infact look like a floppy disk of years past, it looks pretty much just like a DVD or CD.
